Direct answer
Chip may read approved Gmail and Calendar data and create a Gmail draft when a job requires it. It does not expose Gmail send or Calendar creation, modification, or deletion.
Read permission is not action permission
Retrieving a message for a brief is different from sending a reply. Reading a calendar event is different from changing the invitation. Keep those authorities separate in the product, consent screen, and review process.
Questions to ask before connecting
- Which exact job needs the connection?
- Which account and data types can it read?
- Can it send, delete, or modify anything?
- How are results and evidence retained?
- How can access be removed?
Chip’s current public boundary
Chip uses read scopes for Gmail and Google Calendar, with one narrow exception: it can create a Gmail draft for review. Sending email and creating, changing, or deleting Calendar events are not exposed. The current connector details and limitations are documented on the security page.
What read-only does not solve
An assistant may still surface sensitive information in a generated result if the job and source boundaries are too broad. Keep the source set narrow, review who receives the result, and avoid connecting accounts that the job does not need.
Review access over time
Remove unused connections and revisit the saved job when roles, accounts, or business needs change. A permission that was appropriate for one job should not become a permanent default for unrelated work.
Questions buyers ask
Can Chip send email using Gmail?
No. Chip can create a Gmail draft for review, but sending is not exposed.
Can Chip change a Google Calendar event?
No. The Calendar connection retrieves event information without authority to create, modify, or delete events.
Is limited Google access risk free?
No. Narrow permissions reduce modification risk, but the assistant still needs appropriate source boundaries, retention controls, and delivery controls.
